    Artists of all ages are encouraged to grab a brush and get creative at “Paint the Dome” event on Saturday, July 18, from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Brookhaven City Centre, 4001 Peachtree Road.

    According to an announcement from the city, the event is inspired by the city’s annual “Paint the Park” tradition at Blackburn Park. It offers participants of all ages a new subject to express their creativity.

    “The family-friendly event is open to artists of all ages and skill levels with no registration required. Art supplies and canvases will be provided while supplies last, and artists are allowed to bring their own supplies,” the announcement said.

    Parks month celebrated

    In addition, the city joins others around the country in celebrating Park and Recreation Month with this year’s national theme, “The Power of…”

    “This year’s national theme highlights the power of park and recreation, community, nature, belonging, well-being, and the professionals who make these experiences possible,” an announcement from the city said.

    “In Brookhaven, we love our parks and appreciate the staff and volunteers that dedicate their time to making them the best they can be,” said Brookhaven Mayor John Park in the announcement.

    As part of Park and Recreation Month, the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) is celebrating Park and Recreation Professionals Day on July 17, the announcement said.

    “This is a day to celebrate all the dedicated professionals who build strong, vibrant, and resilient communities,” it said. “Be sure to thank a park and recreation professional if you see them around Brookhaven this month.”

    Events this month include:

    • July 9: Conservation Series; Amphibians: 6:30 p.m. Ashford Park Community Building
    • July 10: Pool party followed by dive-in movie 6-8 p.m. Briarwood Park pool and 8-10 p.m. Briarwood Park pool
    • July 11: Volunteer Park Clean-up: 9 a.m. Ashford Forest Preserve, 3890 Clairmont Road
    • July 11: YMCA Pop-up Soccer Clinics: 10 a.m. & 11 a.m. Lynwood Park
    • July 15: Popsicle Pop-up : 1-2 p.m. Blackburn Park, 3493 Ashford Dunwoody Road
    • July 18: Walk with a Doc: 9-10 a.m. Murphey Candler Park Trailhead East
    • July 21: Popsicle Pop-up: 1-2 p.m. Briarwood Park
    • July 24: Community Movie Night: 8-10 p.m. Lynwood Park
    • July 29: American Red Cross Blood Drive: 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Lynwood Park Recreation Center Community Room
