SAVANNAH, Ga. (October 23, 2026) — An evening of music, dancing and community support will help bring attention to domestic violence in Savannah as SAFE Shelter hosts its Twilight Ball 2026: Dancing in the Moonlight on Friday, October 23.
- SAFE Shelter provides confidential, no-cost services: 24-hour crisis hotline, emergency shelter, safety planning, legal advocacy, and support for children.
- The Twilight Ball fundraiser unites neighbors to raise awareness and sustain vital support for survivors beyond Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
- Anyone needing help can call SAFE Shelter's 24-hour crisis hotline at 912-629-8888, call 911 in immediate danger, or visit safeshelter.org.
The fundraiser begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Palmetto Club at The Landings. The event comes during Domestic Violence Awareness Month, when organizations across the country encourage communities to support survivors and learn where to turn for help.
More than a night of dancing
For SAFE Shelter Center for Domestic Violence Services, the Twilight Ball is an opportunity to bring neighbors together around a cause that affects families throughout the Savannah area. The organization provides confidential support to people experiencing domestic violence and works to help survivors rebuild their lives.
Founded in 1979, SAFE Shelter operates a 24-hour crisis hotline, emergency shelter and services that include safety planning, legal advocacy and support for children and families. Its programs are provided at no cost to survivors.
SAFE Shelter Chief Executive Officer Lee Robbins discussed the organization’s work and the upcoming event in a recent WSAV Community Corner segment.
Why awareness matters beyond October
Domestic violence is not always visible. Abuse may include physical harm, threats, intimidation, controlling access to money, isolation from family and friends, or monitoring a partner’s phone and online activity.
Leaving an abusive relationship can also bring difficult decisions about housing, employment, children and safety. A trained advocate can help someone explore options without pressuring them to make a decision before they are ready.
Events such as the Twilight Ball help keep the conversation going and remind residents that local assistance is available throughout the year.
