More than 50 Savannah-Chatham County Public School System art educators received a boost for the new school year thanks to the generosity of long-time community partner SCAD. Through its annual art supply donation event, SCAD provided classroom materials and creative resources that will support arts education across SCCPSS schools. The donation included boxes of classroom essentials for every SCCPSS school, along with additional supplies such as paint, brushes, sketchbooks, organizers, classroom décor, and other materials to help teachers engage students in creative learning experiences throughout the year.
The supplies were collected through SCAD SERVE, the university’s community engagement initiative. As students moved out at the end of the academic year, they donated gently used art and classroom materials that were then redistributed to local educators. Thanks to expanded collection sites across campus, this year’s effort resulted in a record number of donated supplies.
“The SCAD art donation is a powerful example of what can happen when community partners invest in our schools,” said Dr. Denise Watts, superintendent of SCCPSS. “These supplies provide our talented art teachers with new tools to spark creativity, expand learning opportunities, and engage students in meaningful ways. We are grateful for SCAD’s continued partnership and commitment to helping our students explore their talents, develop critical thinking skills, and achieve unlimited possibilities.”
