Statesboro High School has announced it is parting ways with head boys basketball coach Keith LeGree after six seasons. LeGree is expected to remain on staff in his teaching position.
Grice Connect has confirmed that Statesboro High School has dismissed boys basketball head coach Keith LeGree following six seasons leading his alma mater, according to multiple sources. LeGree has been offered the opportunity to remain at the school as in his teaching position.
I can confirm that Statesboro High School has chosen to move in a different direction for that position for the upcoming school year; however, the current head coach is still employed by the district as a teacher at Statesboro High School, and our plan is for him to remain in that role,” said Hayley Greene, Public Relations Director, Bulloch County Schools.
LeGree, a 1991 Statesboro High graduate and member of the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame, was hired in 2020 to succeed legendary coach Lee Hill after spending years coaching at the collegiate and professional levels.
During his time at the helm, LeGree coached the Blue Devils to a 122-44 overall record, four region championships and six consecutive appearances in the Georgia High School Association state playoffs.
The Blue Devils reached the Elite Eight twice during LeGree’s tenure and advanced to the Sweet 16 in three additional seasons. His teams were known for their defensive intensity and disciplined play, helping establish Statesboro as a perennial contender in Class 6A.
LeGree returned to Statesboro after a coaching career that included assistant coaching stops at the University of Detroit Mercy, the University of Cincinnati, the University of Hartford, Texas Southern, Wabash Valley College, Chipola College and Alabama Southern. He also served as head coach of Marinos de Barcelona in Venezuela and Monroe County High School in Alabama.
As a player, LeGree helped lead Statesboro High to the 1991 state championship before continuing his career at the University of Louisville and later the University of Cincinnati. He also spent several seasons playing professional baseball in the Minnesota Twins.
Statesboro High School has not announced a replacement at this time. The school is expected to begin the search for a new head coach as preparations continue for the 2026-27 basketball season.
