It’s truly astonishing how high my heels used to be! I could pull off and successfully strut around in some crazy arches, but the pandemic ruined me for those kinds of shoes. After not having many reasons to put on tall heels for a couple of years, it’s like my feet reverted back to being flat and are unable to accommodate those angles anymore. Especially now that I’m living in New York City and walking most places, a sky high heel is almost always a no-go unless it’s a special occasion, or the night calls for a cab/uber anyway. So for the last several years, most heeled shoe styles I buy are either a kitten heel or, at the very least, below three inches. I especially love the kitten heeled variety, because they act as more of a day-to-night shoe and tend to be more versatile!
Comfort is not universal, but I have found some pretty amazing sandals in the last couple of years if you’re looking to try some new styles this season! Below are some of my tried + true favorites, plus some additional silhouettes I’m eyeing at the moment:
ATP ATELIER TAVENNA SANDALS – I bought these two years ago and I plan to wear them into the ground again this season! In fact, they’re probably due for a spruce up at my cobbler, seeing how much I’ve worn them! When I first bought them they were only available in black, but they’ve obviously gotten so popular they’ve introduced a number of new colors and materials. The style is simple and sleek, just a straightforward but modern slide sandal that is so comfortable you can truly wear them all day! I recently bought them in the “cannella” croc-effect finish, which will be a nice new neutral to incorporate for summer and early fall! They fit true to size.
STUART WEITZMAN RIO SANDALS – feeling the 90’s vibes? This is an elevated take on the thong trend. I’ll admit, these gave me blisters between my toes when I first got them… but that’s only because I haven’t worn a thong sandal in over a decade! The leather is so soft and they really are comfortable, I just needed to get used to the thong silhouette again. I love the elegant way the strap glides along the foot, starting narrow at the toe and expanding as it arrives near the heel! So many of the thong sandals I see look so sterile and stiff, but these feel more stylized and feminine. True to size!
STAUD BRIGITTE MULES – This is another beloved style I’ve had for two years and have worn them SO much! I got them in a beige, lizard-effect leather which is sadly no longer available… but they come in cream, black brown, gold, etc! While my ATP sandals have more of an edgy, contemporary vibe, these feel more Carrie Bradshaw. The perfect dinner sandal for summer! True to size.
TOTEME CROSSOVER SANDALS – I tried these satin sandals on in the fall but decided to wait, and I’m so glad I did! I ended up snagging them on sale (along with my favorite white top of the season) from FarFetch a few months ago. These are the ones I’m wearing in the photo above! I would have preferred them in leather for a slightly more casual look (those promptly sold out), but I think I can get away with wearing the satin more casually because you’d have to look really closely to see the fabric. The heel is so slight and super wearable, and thanks to all the straps they really stay on your feet! I actually sized down a half size in these.
ZARA ANKLE STRAP THONG SANDALS – These are a new purchase, but one I’ve been wearing on repeat! These could barely be considered a heel because it’s so minor, but that’s why I love them. I can get away with wearing them all day, but the slight hidden wedge gives them just enough height to feel dressy enough for dinner too! Such a great designer look for less, and so comfortable! True to size for Zara – I take the 9, which is apparently a 39.5/9.5.
