THE IN-BETWEEN EDIT: TRANSITIONAL TOPPERS

Style Spotlight: Looks, Trends & Fashion Inspiration

Key takeaways
  • The leather trench from Nour Hammour balances quilted-jacket warmth with an elevated, city-friendly, day-to-night versatility.
  • Keep a variety: quilted jackets, a neutral trench (MANGO), and leather toppers serve different styling purposes.
  • Quilted jackets are the most casual; neutral trenches are versatile but lightweight and less warming.
  • Utility jackets like Wiggy Kit layer casually; pair with elevated pieces or Guest in Residence finds for balance.
  • Stock multiple transitional toppers because in-between weather is common in urban life, especially in New York City.

NOUR HAMMOUR KASHA BLACK LEATHER TRENCH // MERRITT BECK

I don’t want to jinx myself, but I feel like we may have gotten past the worst of winter here! While the forecast still looks a little all over the place, we’re starting to see temps in the 60s a couple times a week… which is definitely promising! This weekend we had some truly perfect weather, with sunny skies and temps in the high 50s, low 60s – I spent both days exploring the East Village and Lower East Side with friends, and it felt unbelievable to swap my heavier coats for lighter fare. On Saturday I wore this Nour Hammour leather trench that I scored on sale during Cyber Week, and on Sunday I styled this Wiggy Kit utility jacket over my recent Guest in Residence acquisition!

The leather trench was something I’d had my eye on for months, because I thought it would be a city-friendly transitional topper for those in-between weather moments. In terms of other transitional toppers, I’ve got a couple of solid quilted jackets and my MANGO trench – all of which serve different purposes and I style in a variety of ways. I’d say the quilted jackets are the most casual of the three categories, and while the neutral trench is more versatile, it’s also pretty lightweight and not the best for chillier days. I’m not sure I would have been warm enough in it on Saturday! This leather trench is a good balance of the two, because it has a similar level of warmth as a quilted jacket, but is slightly more elevated and could certainly be styled day-to-night like the neutral trench. All of that to say, I’m glad I have a variety because this kind of in-between weather happens a lot in New York City!

If you’re in the market for some chic transitional jackets and coats, don’t miss these other styles I’m eyeing:
