Soap opera actor Patrick Muldoon’s official cause of death has been confirmed.

The Days of Our Lives star died on April 19, aged 57, from a myocardial infarction, commonly known as a heart attack, according to documents obtained by Us Weekly.

Underlying causes listed on his death certificate included hereditary coagulopathy disorder, a condition that impairs the blood’s ability to form clots, and pulmonary embolism, a clot that blocks a vital artery in the lung.

Muldoon starred in Days of Our Lives from 1992 to 1995, later returning to the show to reprise his role of Austin Reed from 2011 to 2012.

He also starred in soap opera Melrose Place, and popular science fiction film Starship Troopers in 1997.

In recent years, Muldoon gained a number of executive producer credits for films including The Tribes of Palos Verdes, Arkansas, Marlowe, The Card Counter, The Dreadful and Riff Raff.

Just days after his death, his latest film Dirty Hands was released, co-starring his close friend and ex-girlfriend Denise Richards.

Richards said she’d known Muldoon her “whole adult life”.

”You’ve had my back and protected me more than anyone. I don’t know what I’m going to do without you here,” she continued.
