Black Travelers: Explore Culture, Adventure & Connection

    Key takeaways
    • Primary filming locations: Australia, Thailand; Los Angeles served as post-production hub.
    • Sydney hub: Disney Studios Australia in Moore Park handled studio scenes; coastal sites like Sea Cliff Bridge captured dramatic ocean shots.
    • Best travel times: visit Sydney September through November or March through May; southern Thailand November through April.
    • Things to do: coastal walks from Bondi to Coogee, island-hopping around Phi Phi Islands, snorkeling, local dining and spas.

From its nerve-rattling survival scenes to its dark humor and tense psychological twists, “Send Help” has quickly become one of the most talked-about thrillers of 2026. Directed by Sam Raimi and starring Rachel McAdams alongside Dylan O’Brien, the film follows two co-workers stranded after a devastating plane crash. They must navigate survival, distrust and emotional chaos on a remote island where the dynamics are completely different. Critics and fans alike have praised the movie’s mix of horror, suspense and Raimi’s signature dark comedy style.

Beyond the impressive performances and shocking plot twists, audiences cannot stop talking about the breathtaking filming locations. Towering coastal cliffs, tropical shorelines and isolated landscapes play a major role in building the film’s uneasy atmosphere. Many viewers have wondered whether the island locations were real or created through just studio effects. The answer is a combination of both. Production traveled to Australia, Thailand, and parts of the United States to create the visually immersive world of “Send Help.”

    Where Was ‘Send Help’ Filmed?

“Send Help’ was primarily filmed in Australia and Thailand, with additional production work completed in Los Angeles, California. Sydney served as the movie’s central production hub, especially for studio-based scenes and controlled survival sequences. According to Prime Timer, filming utilized Disney Studios Australia in Moore Park. This is where large indoor sets and visual effects scenes were created.

Several exterior sequences were also filmed around coastal New South Wales. Reddit reports point to areas near Sea Cliff Bridge and Sydney’s shoreline being used to capture dramatic ocean visuals and isolation shots that appear throughout the film. Meanwhile, Thailand provided the lush tropical island landscapes seen during many of the survival scenes.

Los Angeles was used for additional filming. As film fanatics know, Hollywood productions often return to Los Angeles for sound mixing, reshoots and visual effects work. That’s especially true when combining practical locations with studio-built environments. So while most of the movie’s recognizable scenery comes from Australia and Thailand, LA helped finalize the polished cinematic look audiences see onscreen.

Tips For Visiting Scenic Sydney, Australia

    (Disney)

Key Scenes: Sydney was primarily used for the movie’s studio-heavy sequences, including the plane crash at the center of the narrative, according to Prime Timer.

Best Time to Visit: The best months to visit Sydney are September through November and March through May. During these periods, temperatures are comfortable, crowds are lighter and beach weather remains pleasant without the intense summer heat.

Transportation Options: Sydney’s public transportation system is efficient and tourist-friendly. Visitors can use Sydney Trains, light rail services, ferries around Circular Quay and rental cars for coastal road trips toward Wollongong and the Sea Cliff Bridge area.

As Prime Timer reports, Disney Studios Australia in Moore Park handled many of the controlled scenes, including interior survival sequences and technically demanding moments requiring soundstage work. The city’s combination of experienced film crews, advanced studio facilities and easy access to beaches and cliffs made it an ideal choice for the production team.

One of the most talked-about rumored filming spots is the Sea Cliff Bridge near Wollongong, south of Sydney, per Reddit. While some fan reports mention the bridge appearing in scenic transitional shots, verified production confirmations are pretty limited. Similarly, online reports suggest that The Coast Golf Club in Little Bay may have been used for golf-related sequences, though this detail has not been officially confirmed by the studio.

Things to Do: Visitors can pair their “Send Help” sightseeing with stops at Bondi Beach, the Sydney Opera House and the Blue Mountains. Coastal walks between Bondi and Coogee are especially popular among travelers seeking dramatic ocean scenery reminiscent of the film’s atmosphere.

Where to Eat: Dining hotspots near major production areas include The Grounds of Alexandria, Cafe Sydney and Icebergs Dining Room and Bar overlooking Bondi Beach. Sydney also offers excellent Afro-Caribbean, Ethiopian and multicultural dining experiences throughout neighborhoods like Newtown and Surry Hills.

Where to Stay: Travelers looking for upscale accommodations near central filming areas should consider Ace Hotel Sydney, QT Sydney or the Shangri-La Sydney. These properties provide convenient access to beaches, nightlife and transportation hubs.

Thailand Was The Perfect Outdoor Location For Filming ‘Send Help’

Key Scenes: As Digital Spy reports, Thailand was reportedly used for many of the movie’s outdoor survival moments, including beach camp, jungle exploration and cliffside scenes. Several rescue and ocean-based visuals also appear to have been filmed along Thailand’s southern coast.

Best Time to Visit: The best time to visit southern Thailand is between November and April. This is when the dry season brings sunny skies and calmer ocean conditions. This period is ideal for beach activities, island tours and boat excursions.

Transportation Options: Travelers can reach Thailand’s southern islands through domestic flights from Bangkok to Phuket or Krabi. Ferries, speedboats and longtail boats connect nearby islands. Private drivers and rideshare apps are common in tourist-heavy areas.

Thailand reportedly provided the lush tropical backdrops for “Send Help’s” most visually striking survival scenes. Production reports confirm that filming took place in Thailand for portions of the movie’s island and beach sequences. While exact locations haven’t been revealed, southern Thailand’s cinematic coastlines appear to have heavily influenced the film’s tropical setting.

However, it wasn’t easy to film at such a stunning location. As producer Zainab Azizi shared with Digital Spy, “Looking back, no regrets, but it was a little difficult. We rented… a whole coconut farm to ourselves. We had to clear all the coconuts because they are a hazard. They could fall on people and kill them.” From the sounds of things, production had to be careful and survive the jungle – just like the main characters in the film.

Things to Do: Visitors inspired by “Send Help” can enjoy island-hopping tours around Phi Phi Islands, or go on snorkeling excursions and visit Maya Bay. You can also explore Phuket Old Town, take Thai cooking classes or book luxury spa experiences throughout the region.

Where to Eat: Excellent dining options near Thailand’s filming-style destinations include Blue Elephant Phuket, Jungle Kitchen and La Gritta. Travelers should also experience Thailand’s famous street food scene, especially seafood markets and local curry vendors.

Where to Stay: Luxury travelers may enjoy resorts such as Phulay Bay, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve, Sri Panwa Phuket or SAii Phi Phi Island Village. These properties offer beachfront access, island excursions and upscale amenities that fit the movie’s tropical atmosphere.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    How scary is “Send Help”?

“Send Help” blends psychological thriller elements with survival horror and dark comedy, so it’s a bit of a wild card. Reviews on platforms like Rotten Tomatoes describe the movie as tense, suspenseful and occasionally graphic, but not relentlessly terrifying.

Is Linda evil in “Send Help”?

Linda, who is played by Rachel McAdams, is intentionally written as a morally complicated character. Early in the film, audiences sympathize with her struggles against her arrogant boss and seemingly boring life. However, as their survival conditions worsen, the story increasingly blurs the line between victim and aggressor.
