    Key takeaways
    • Weeklong decade-themed celebrations with food trucks, parties, and sweet treats across Summerset communities.
    • Families and visitors invited to join events at Summerset communities in Reno, NV, Rancho Cordova, CA, and Lincoln, CA.
    • Daily themes include Grandparents’ Day floats, ’50s rock, ’60s taco truck, ’70s barbecue, Kona Ice shave ice, and ’80s dessert cart.
    • Residents memories and community connection celebrated; appreciating staff uplifts care and the warmth families notice.
    • Community partners support events: Applied Healthcare & Hospice, American Prime Healthcare Hospice & Palliative Care, VITAS Healthcare, Oak Creek Home Health, and First Call Hospice.

Every September, we set aside a full week just to celebrate the people who make Summerset feel like home: our residents and the caregivers who show up for them every day. National Assisted Living Week runs September 13–19, 2026, and this year’s theme could not fit us better: “Shining Through the Years.” It’s a nod to the decades of life, love, and memories our residents carry with them, and to the staff who help them keep shining every single day.

This year, we’re celebrating with “Food, Treats & Good Times”; a full week of decade-themed parties, food trucks, and sweet treats across our Summerset communities. And here’s the best part: you’re invited. Whether you have a loved one living with us or you’re simply curious what life at Summerset is really like, we’d love for you to stop by any of our communities in Reno, NV, Rancho Cordova, CA or Lincoln, CA during the week and join the celebration.

Why We Go All Out for This Week

Assisted living isn’t just about care; it’s about connection with others. Our residents have lived through decades of music, food, and moments worth celebrating, and this week is our chance to bring all of that back to life together, as a community. From root beer floats to a disco-ball barbecue, every day is designed to spark a smile, a memory, or a story residents can’t wait to share.

It’s just as much a week for our staff. The caregivers, med techs, activities coordinators, and support teams at Summerset pour themselves into this work every day, and this week is our way of saying thank you. When our team feels celebrated, that warmth carries right back into the care they give, and that’s something families notice the moment they walk through our doors.

This Year’s Schedule: “Shining Through the Years”

Here’s how each Summerset community is celebrating, day by day. Families and friends are always welcome to join in on the festivities.

Sunday, September 13: Grandparents’ Day: “Grand Floats & Good Times”
Root beer floats at 2:00 PM for residents and staff in both Assisted Living and Memory Care. A sweet kickoff to the week, and a wonderful day to bring the grandkids by.

Monday, September 14: Rock Around the Clock (’50s): “Coffee, Donuts & Rock ‘n’ Roll”
Hosted by Applied Healthcare & Hospice(opens in new tab). Memory Care at 10:00 AM, Assisted Living at 11:00 AM. Coffee, donuts, and classic rock ‘n’ roll for residents and staff.

Tuesday, September 15: Flower Power (’60s): “Peace, Love & Tacos”
A taco truck in partnership with American Prime Healthcare Hospice & Palliative Care(opens in new tab), serving 2–3 tacos per person (chicken, pork, or steak) with rice and beans, chips and salsa. 1:00–3:00 PM in the Summerset parking lot. Staff only, meal ticket required.

Wednesday, September 16: Disco Fever (’70s): “Boogie & BBQ”
An 11:00 AM–2:00 PM barbecue on the Assisted Living patio for residents and staff.

Thursday, September 17: Shining at Summerset: “Shine & Shave Ice”
Kona Ice, hosted by VITAS Healthcare(opens in new tab), 2:00–3:00 PM in the Summerset parking lot, for residents and staff.

Friday, September 18: Totally ’80s: “Sweet ’80s Dessert Cart”
Hosted by Oak Creek Home Health(opens in new tab) and First Call Hospice(opens in new tab), the dessert cart spends 30 minutes in each community between 2:00–3:00 PM, for residents and staff.

A Big Thank You to Our Partners

This week wouldn’t be the same without our incredible community partners: Applied Healthcare & Hospice Services(opens in new tab), American Prime Healthcare Hospice & Palliative Care(opens in new tab), VITAS Healthcare(opens in new tab), Oak Creek Home Health(opens in new tab), and First Call Hospice(opens in new tab). Thank you for helping us make this week so special for our residents and staff.

    Come Celebrate with Us

There’s no better time to see what everyday life at Summerset feels like than during a week when we’re at our liveliest. If you’re considering assisted living or memory care for a loved one, stop by any of our communities in Reno, Rancho, or Lincoln during National Assisted Living Week to meet our residents, meet our team, and get a real feel for the warmth and energy that make Summerset home. We can’t wait to celebrate with you.

Contact your nearest Summerset community today to plan your visit during the week.
