    The Citizen continues its mission to highlight the best and brightest athletes in our community with our Athletes of the Week feature. Each week, we celebrate the hard work, dedication, and achievements of student-athletes across local high schools.

    East Coweta High School

    Jack Shaner
    Cross Country

    Jack finished 1st for the team and placed top 10 overall in all of his first 3 races of the season. The junior captain has started off the season very well and looks to improve on his times from last year.

    Fayette County High School

    Iris Mitchell
    Volleyball

    Iris is the ultimate team player—whether she’s making dynamic plays on the court or cheering from the bench, her positive energy sets the tone for our entire program. Incredibly coachable and versatile, she selflessly steps into whatever position the team needs and handles every role with poise. Smooth, reliable, and equipped with exceptional finesse on her hits, Iris consistently places the ball right where it needs to go when it counts most. Thank you, Iris, for your hard work, flexibility, and unwavering dedication to our team!

    McIntosh High School

    “Maurice “Twin” Swoope is a tremendous example of the standard we expect from a McIntosh CHIEF. He carries himself with class, treats others with respect, and represents our program exceptionally well in the classroom and throughout the school. Maurice is humble, dependable, and always willing to serve his teammates by doing whatever is asked of him. His initiative and commitment to excellence are matched by the character and fortitude he displays every day. Maurice is the kind of young man who earns trust through his actions, and we are extremely proud of the person and leader he continues to become.” – Coach Smith

    Campbell is a dedicated senior varsity captain who leads her team well. She communicates effectively, encourages her teammates and fosters a positive team environment. She is always willing to put in the time even outside of practice by helping set up and demonstrating her commitment to the team. Her years of serving the program have been a great help to the coaches and teammates. We are grateful to see her honored. She will be missed next season!

    Starr’s Mill High

    Logan Hand
    Cross Country

    Logan has become one of the strongest athletes on the team and has been competing better and better as the season continues, setting himself up for a great finish to the season.

    Whitewater High School

    David Elegemadu-Duru
    Football

    David is a senior Running Back / Linebacker and one of our team captains. David excels in the classroom and on the field. He currently holds a very high gpa and also leads our team in tackles. David always comes prepared, has a great attitude and is very coachable. David has demonstrated a tremendous work ethic, leadership, consistency, and a respect for others. David is an outstanding young man and amazing at being a great kid and example for the rest of our Whitewater community.
