CAT Board Reaffirms Commitment To Equal Access With Zero-Fare Transit Day – 02-03-2025

    Key takeaways
    • Zero-fare service day on February 4, 2025, to observe Transit Equity Day and honor Rosa Parks.
    • Emphasis on accessibility: highlights need for affordable transit to reach jobs, education, and healthcare.
    • Dedicated seats on every fixed-route and paratransit vehicle in remembrance of Rosa Parks.
    • Leadership statements from Deidrick Cody and Stephanie Cutter reinforcing transit as a pathway to opportunity and equity.

Chatham Area Transit Authority’s (CAT) Board of Directors is proud to approve a zero-fare service day on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, in recognition of Transit Equity Day and to honor Rosa Parks.

Transit Equity Day highlights the need for accessible and affordable public transportation, ensuring everyone can access jobs, education, healthcare, and other vital resources. The occasion also commemorates Rosa Parks’ legacy by advocating for equitable transit systems that empower communities.

“Access to public transportation is the cornerstone of a thriving and inclusive community,” said Deidrick Cody, Chair of the CAT Board of Directors. “We are proud to honor Rosa Parks’ memory by inviting everyone to ride with us and experience the vital role public transit plays firsthand.”

In addition to waiving fares, CAT will dedicate a seat on every fixed-route and paratransit mobility vehicle in remembrance of Rosa Parks.

“Rosa Parks’ act of courage reminds us that transit systems must serve as pathways to opportunity and equity,” said Stephanie Cutter, Interim Executive Director/CEO. “By offering a zero-fare service day, we honor and keep Rosa Parks’ legacy alive.

February 4th marks the anniversary of Rosa Parks’ historic stand for justice in 1955, when she refused to give up her seat on a Montgomery, Alabama bus.
