llege of Business Administration. Since its inception, the Collegiate DECA chapter has attended the International Career Development Conference (ICDC) each year, consistently placing in at least one event and showcasing the exceptional talent and dedication of its members. ICDC is an annual event that brings together top business students from around the world to compete in various business, management, marketing, and entrepreneurship challenges. Collegiate DECA provides students with a platform to develop and demonstrate their skills in real-world business scenarios, preparing them for future careers in the business world.

Collegiate DECA is a student-led organization dedicated to preparing emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management. Through business competitions, networking events, and professional development opportunities, Collegiate DECA empowers students to make a lasting impact on the global business landscape.

In April, the SSU chapter participated in the 2025 Collegiate DECA ICDC in San Francisco, CA. The chapter’s achievements reached new heights with Kanaya Franklin, a freshman accounting major, being selected as a finalist and earning a prestigious Top Ten finish in the Professional Sales competition. This remarkable accomplishment highlights her hard work and business insight. In addition to this individual achievement, the chapter was awarded the Chapter Leadership Passport, a significant recognition that acknowledges Collegiate DECA’s commitment to leadership, service, and excellence in business development. This accomplishment serves as a testament to the hard work of the entire chapter and its focus on student growth, leadership, and community impact.

Furthermore, several Collegiate DECA members were recognized with the Individual Leadership Passport for their exceptional leadership skills and contributions to the organization. These members include Mercedes Dames, Suraya Gantt, Briana Jones, Mikalah Parks, and Morgan Snipes. This award is given to students who have demonstrated outstanding leadership within the chapter and have shown commitment to Collegiate DECA’s mission and values.

Collegiate DECA’s success aligns perfectly with the mission of the College of Business Administration at Savannah State University. The organization provides students with valuable hands-on experience, leadership development, and networking opportunities that complement the academic education provided by the college. Collegiate DECA’s focus on entrepreneurship, innovation, and career readiness makes it an ideal fit for students aspiring to succeed in the competitive business world.

Dr. Carmella Lennon-Hill, a proud alumna of Savannah State University and management faculty member, currently serves as the Collegiate DECA primary advisor, continuing her commitment to mentorship and student success. Under her leadership, Collegiate DECA members are equipped with the skills, experiences, and networks needed to excel in the global business landscape. With a strong foundation and a commitment to excellence, Collegiate DECA is poised to continue making a lasting impact on both its members and the Savannah State University community.
