Senior Citizens Inc. celebrates 65 Years of service and honors three community legends

Senior Citizens Inc. (SCI), a Savannah area nonprofit dedicated to helping people age successfully, celebrated its 65th anniversary at the upcoming Legends, Leaders and Life Well Lived Luncheon on Thursday, May 8, 2025, at The Palmetto Club at The Landings.

Key takeaways
  • Honorees celebrated: Dr. Otis S. Johnson, Camille O’Neill, and John A. White, Sr. recognized for lifelong community service.
  • 65th anniversary reflection: SCI reaffirmed its mission to help people age successfully and honor community impact.
  • “Honor a Legend” tribute: Guests donated $100 to recognize personal heroes; honorees received messages and social media acknowledgment.

The luncheon honored three outstanding community servants who exemplify what it means to live a life of service, compassion, and community impact.

This year’s honorees are:

  • Dr. Otis S. Johnson – A trailblazing leader and former two term Savannah mayor, Dr. Johnson has dedicated his life to education, civil rights, and championing underrepresented communities.
  • Camille O’Neill – A devoted educator and community servant, Mrs. O’Neill has uplifted thousands through her work in schools and volunteer leadership.
  • John A. White, Sr. – A World War II veteran, Medal of Honor recipient, and one of Savannah’s “Original Nine” African-American police officers, Mr. White is a true American hero whose legacy continues to inspire.

“Our 65th anniversary gives us a powerful moment to reflect on our mission and the people who bring it to life,” said Patti Lyons, President of Senior Citizens Inc. “This year’s honorees embody the spirit of a life well lived and continue to shape the future of our local community with grace and strength.”

Guests attending the luncheon were invited to “Honor a Legend,” a special tribute opportunity allowing them to recognize someone who made a meaningful impact in their own lives through a $100 donation to SCI. Honorees receive a personal message and are featured in a special social media acknowledgment.

SCI extends its sincere thanks to their 65th Anniversary Gala Sponsors; the Kole Family, Colonial Oil Group, Innomed Inc., Sterling Seacrest Pritchard, Gulfstream, and our Legends, Leaders, and Life Well Lived sponsors; Queensborough National Bank, South State Bank, the Solomons Family, Critz Auto Group, Georgia Ports Authority, Georgia Power, and Cynthia Willett.
