Global Black Voices: News from around the World

Pedernales.- The Dominican government continues to prioritize the construction of the border perimeter fence, as confirmed by Lieutenant General Carlos Fernández Onofre, head of the Armed Forces, during an inspection tour of key border areas. He reported that the first phase of the project—an 8-kilometer stretch in Pedernales—has been completed, while the second phase, currently underway, will span 13 kilometers from Dajabón to Capotillo.

During his tour, which included stops in Jimaní, Elías Piña, Manzanillo, and Dajabón, Fernández Onofre praised the efforts of Dominican soldiers stationed along the border. Addressing recent tensions at the Malpaso customs office, he described them as an internal dispute between Haitian merchants and customs officials, expressing confidence that they would resolve the issue independently.

Regarding recent claims made by Haitian authorities to the Organization of American States (OAS) about arms trafficking from Dominican territory, the Defense Minister firmly denied any such activity, stating that no evidence has been found to support those allegations.
