SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — One of the areas where the Jacksonville Jaguars are looking to improve is the offensive line.

First year general manager James Gladstone has made a significant effort to bolster the unit that protects quarterback Trevor Lawrence.

Gladstone accepted the general manager position on Feb. 21. Then, three weeks later, on the first day of free agency, the team announced eight signings, three on the offensive line, which was the highest of any position group.

Then on March 19 they added on another big man. During the NFL draft, they added Wyatt Milum from West Virgina. Then on May 9, added another rookie.

Last year’s O-Line was pretty good at protecting the quarterback, at least by the numbers. They were tied for seventh in sacks given up with the Atlanta Falcons. They surrendered 32 sacks.

However, on the flip side, they had the seventh fewest rushing yards last season at 1,729, which averaged out to 4.2 yards per carry.

“They’ve actually done a really nice job over the last specifically maybe three days,  just in terms of the communication, what we’re asking of them from the fundamental techniques standpoint,” head coach Coen said. “It’s really hard to see the grit and the finish and the toughness fully on display in these settings just because of the rules and regulations that we have. We’re obviously trying to improve every day as a unit offensively, defensively, special teams.”

“I do think that group has done a nice job specifically over the last few days.”

The Jaguars have a pretty veteran offensive line group at OTAs. There are 15 listed on the roster and only three of those are rookies.
