Black Voices: News, Culture & Community from Across the Nation

In a bold move to bridge the gap between renting and homeownership, JWB Cares, the philanthropic arm of JWB Real Estate Companies (JWB), has introduced the 2025 Welcome Home Fund. This initiative is set to provide eight current JWB residents with $20,000 each in down payment assistance, facilitating their transition into homeownership within the Northeast Florida community.

JWB, Jacksonville’s affordable housing leader, is deeply committed to the transformative power of homeownership. The organization believes that owning a home not only offers financial stability but also fosters stronger communities. Through the Welcome Home Fund, JWB aims to make homeownership more accessible to its residents.

Eligibility Criteria: To qualify for the Welcome Home Fund, applicants must:

    • Be current JWB residents as of July 1, 2025.
    • Demonstrate financial need.
    • Show a commitment to giving back to the Jacksonville community.
    • Attend a JWB Homebuyer Education class.
    • Ensure the purchased home is located in Northeast Florida.
    • Be qualified to purchase a home by July 1, 2026.

Additionally, selected residents can combine these funds with JWB’s HomeStep program, a $23 million commitment from JWB to help residents on the path to homeownership, provided they meet specific criteria, such as having lived in the home for over 12 months or purchasing a JWB Signature Home.

    Application Timeline:

    • April 1, 2025: The application period is open, and new residents have 60-90 days to pre-qualify and sign a lease to be eligible.
    • July 1, 2025: Application period closes.
    • August 1, 2025: An independent panel of nonprofit CEOs will review submissions and identify the top 25 residents. From these, eight will be selected to receive the Welcome Home Fund’s downpayment assistance.
    • September 2025: Selected residents will be announced during an in-person news conference and event.

This initiative is just one testament to JWB’s dedication to its residents and the broader Jacksonville community. By offering substantial financial assistance and educational resources, JWB is not just facilitating home purchases; it’s nurturing dreams and building stronger neighborhoods.
