✨ Why Sydney?
I hit “register” in October 2023, nearly a full year before race day, and was still riding the endorphin wave of back-to-back World Marathon Majors in Berlin and Chicago. If you’ve ever run a marathon, you know the rule: cross one finish line, start planning the next—despite swearing at mile 18 you’d never do this again.
Back then, Sydney was quietly buzzing as a potential Abbott World Marathon Major. No lottery, no mad dash, just a “what if” whisper among marathoners. And for me, it wasn’t just about chasing a 6th star. I was chasing continents. Sydney would give me Oceania, bringing me one step closer to my Antarctica Marathon dream.
But more than strategy, I was in my Australia era. My daughter was studying Down Under, and the marathon was the perfect excuse to return and explore more of her new home.
