    Voices, Votes & Vision: The Latest in Politics & Public Policy

    Key takeaways
    • Tim Echols secured 75.8% of votes in the Republican Primary for Public Service Commission, District 2.
    • Keisha Waites and Peter Hubbard advanced to a runoff in the Democratic Primary, with Hubbard winning 58.2%.
    • Winterville City Council election required no runoff; Timothy Pierce led with 35.3% of total 207 votes.

    Results come from the Georgia Secretary of State’s website for both the primary and the primary runoff.

    Turnout

    213,200 people voted in Georgia out of 7,473,940 registered voters (2.85% turnout).
    2,962 people voted in Athens out of 73,460 registered voters (4.03% turnout).

    Republican Primary

    Public Service Commission, District 2

    Tim Echols

    Tim Echols (incumbent) — 75.8%
    Lee Muns — 24.2%

    63,340 votes were cast in total.

    Uncontested races

    Fitz Johnson was nominated to run for another term as Public Service Commissioner in district 3 with 54,640 votes.

    Democratic Primary

    Public Service Commission, District 3

    Keisha Waites — 46.1%
    Peter Hubbard — 33.3%
    Robert Jones — 20.7%

    125,970 votes were cast in total. Waites and Hubbard then competed in the runoff:

    Peter Hubbard — 58.2%
    Keisha Waites — 41.3%

    113,692 votes were cast in total.

    Uncontested races

    Alicia Johnson was nominated to run for Public Service Commissioner in district 2 with 125,727 votes cast.

    Nonpartisan Special Election

    Winterville City Council

    Timothy Pierce — 35.3%
    Heidi Spratlin — 33.3%
    Dianne Greene — 26.1%
    Isaac Swier — 5.3%

    207 votes were cast in total. Winterville’s charter says that whoever gains the most votes is the winner, making a runoff unnecessary.
