Fresh from the Kitchen: Recipes & Food Inspiration

    Key takeaways
    • Use natural peanut butter with no added oils to prevent separation and oily texture as the mix cools.
    • Gently press into the pan for softer, gooey bites; thoroughly combine butter, peanut butter, and marshmallows to prevent oiling.
    • Cool naturally at room temperature; do not refrigerate or freeze; store in an airtight container on the countertop.

Peanut butter Rice Krispie treats are the perfect no bake dessert that can be shared with family and friends. Gooey marshmallow blends with nutty peanut butter with bites of small marshmallow bits. They are a super easy 4 ingredient dessert that you have to run and make!

    Recipe Highlights

    • How they taste: Peanut butter rice krispie treats when made correctly are super gooey from the melted marshmallows. The peanut butter flavor is present and you get an extra touch of a gooey bite from the extra mini marshmallows added. You get the vanilla flavors of the cereal, the buttery flavor from the marshmallow and the nuttiness from the peanut butter. Everything works perfectly in this easy no bake dessert recipe.
    • Skill level: Rice Krispie treats are super easy! They are so easy, they are a perfect recipe to make with the kids.
    • Storage: Peanut butter Rice Krispie treats are counter top only. They aren’t meant to be frozen either but more on that topic below.

    Ingredient tips

    • Peanut butter: I strongly suggest natural peanut butter without any added oils. The added oils can throw the ratios off in the marshmallow mix. Natural with added peanuts is fine but you don’t want added oils.
    • Marshmallow: Mini marshmallows are used and I recommend them. They serve to add the extra bits of marshmallows without being too heavy or sweet. As you can see in the photos, the mini marshmallows make a extra gooey bite in the Oreo Rice Krispie treats.
    • Butter: This is an important ingredient in flavor and texture. Whether you use salted or unsalted is personal preference.
    • Rice cereal: There is a brand name that we normally use but off brands will work just as well.

    Chef’s tips

    • Press the peanut butter Rice Krispie treats in the pan but not too hard. You want them to be a little loose, they make better bites that way. The store-bought ones are pressed super tightly, if that’s your preference go for it. But, when you don’t press them as tight the marshmallow stays looser and results in more gooey and softer bites.
    • Be sure that when mixing the melted butter, peanut butter and the marshmallow they are perfectly combined. You can mess up the Rice Krispie treats if they aren’t combine properly. It won’t show up until later when the butter and peanut butter start to separate as the mix is cooling. It can make the Rice Krispie treats oily.
    • Line the pan, if you don’t you will have a horribly time trying to remove them. It won’t matter if the pan is non-stick because you aren’t baking them.
    • Do not rush the cooling process. Allow them to cool naturally on the counter top. If you try to put them in the fridge to rush them they will turn out hard.

How To Make Oreo Rice Krispie Treats

    1. To start, be sure to have all the ingredients ready and measured out.
    2. In a pot on medium to low heat, add in the butter. Allow the butter to melt, then add in the marshmallows and begin to stir. Continue until combined.
    3. Once melted, add in the rice cereal and mini marshmallows. Mix until everything is together.
    4. Now, press the mixture into the baking dish.
    5. Allow to sit and cool so that they are harden. Once cooled, lift them out of the pan, slice, then serve.

    Storage

Peanut butter Rice Krispie treats need to be kept on the counter or at least at room temperature. Putting them in the fridge will make the rock hard and they won’t be gooey at all. They are also not meant to be frozen. They will be fine on your counter in an airtight container for days. Remember, all the ingredients are extremely shelf stable.

    • 1/2 cup peanut butter
    • 6 cup rice cereal
    • 15 ounce mini marshmallows
    • 6 tablespoon butter
    • Start by measuring all the ingredients out. Separate the marshmallows by 10oz and 5oz.

    • In a large pot on medium low heat, add in the butter. Once the butter is melted then add in 10oz of the marshmallows and the peanut butter. Allow them all to melt together. You’ll notice they are separated but continue to mix until they are combined and you no longer see streaks of butter or peanut butter in the marshmallows.

    • Once combined, turn off the heat. Then add in the rice cereal and 5oz of marshmallows. Stir until it looks decently even, it won’t be perfect because the melted marshmallow will quickly start to harden making the folding more difficult.

    • Now in a lined baking pan, add in the mix and gently press down to fit he mix into the pan. You are very likely going to have a little left over if you don’t press down super hard. That’s extra to share with the family as the Rice Krispie treats set.

    • Allow them to sit on the counter and completely cool before lifting them out of the pan . When they are cool, slice, serve, and enjoy!
