SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – The start of the NFL preseason can mean only one thing… FOOTBALL IS BACK! Here is your place for all the previews and recaps as we prepare to kick off the 2025-26 seasons of NFL and college football around the State of Georgia.

Atlanta Falcons vs Detroit Lions – The Falcons will begin the 2025 preseason by taking on the Detroit Lions on August 8. Detroit kicked off the preseason, falling to the Los Angeles Chargers 34-7 in Canton at the Hall of Fame game.

The Falcons are coming off a 2024 season that saw them finish 8-9 on the year. Former Washington Huskie Michael Penix is set to mark 2025 as the full-time starter under center. Penix saw action in five games last year, going 61 of 105 for 775 yards. He had three touchdowns to go along with three interceptions over the five games.

Head Coach Raheem Morris enters his second year leading the team. Morris previously spent three seasons (2009-2011) as head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he compiled a 17 and 31 record. He joined the Falcons in 2015 as the assistant head coach before becoming the defensive coordinator and interim head coach in 2020. Before returning to Atlanta, Morris was the defensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams from 2021 to 2023.
