Raymond Gillison affectionately known as” Sunny Boy” to family members and friends was born on August 25, 1935, in Pineland, South Carolina. He was the son of Moud Adison Gillison Jenkins and Isaiah “Manny” Gillison. Raymond was one of a large and loving family.

Raymond made his home in Paterson, New Jersey, where he became known as a hardworking man, a devoted provider, and a gentle yet tough soul. He carried himself with strength, humor, and generosity that touched everyone he met.

He had a personality that was uniquely his own. A no nonsense, straightforward yet, gentle, funny soul and always ready to give. He loved the simple joys of life: playing his lucky lottery numbers and sharing good food and great stories with those he loved. Thanksgiving was his favorite holiday, a time when he took great pride in cooking his famous dishes, especially his unforgettable stuffing that always brought the family together year after year.

Above all else, Raymond was a man who was devoted to his family, a loving husband to Mrs. Lillie R. Gillison, and a proud father and grandfather. He filled his family’s lives with love, laughter, and cherished memories.

He was preceded in death by his siblings; William, Robert, James, Richard, and Joseph Gillison, and his sister Sarah “Helen” Holman. He was he last of his siblings to be called home.

Raymond is survived by his loving wife; Lillie R. Gillison, his children; Ray Gillison, Tyrone Gillison, Charles Gillison, Branda Gillison, and Raymond “Hunky” Gillison, grandchildren; Quadaire Gillison, Wysir Gillison, Taryn Gillison, Jamaal Gillison, Zykita Gillison, CJ Gillison and Nicky Bethea, a special niece; Diane Gillison, and a host of others who adored him and will cherish his memory forever. He also leaves behind a host of nephews and nieces, who loved him dearly.

Though his presence will be deeply missed, his love, his laughter, and his lessons will remain in the hearts of those he leaves behind. Raymond “Sunny Boy” Gillison will be remembered as a giver, a provider, and a man whose life was built on love, family, and faith.

We take comfort in knowing that he is now at peace, reunited with loved ones who went before him. While our hearts are heavy, we are grateful for the years we were given and the countless moments we will cherish forever.

Rest in peace, Sunny Boy—you will live on forever in our hearts.
