City of Savannah: Official News, Events & Community Updates

SAVANNAH – City of Savannah staff with the Parking and Mobility Services Department will host an open house on Sept. 17 at the Savannah Civic Center to share findings and recommendations on parking management from the 2025 Parking Matters Study.

The City invites residents, business owners, and community stakeholders to attend the open house event which will focus attention on parking strategies for the downtown Savannah area between Liberty St. to Victory Drive and 45th, north to south, and Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. to East Broad St. west to east.

Attendees will have the opportunity to review proposed strategies, provide feedback, and learn more about the city’s parking management plan to enhance accessibility and support the community’s needs. The open house will be a drop-in format, with opportunities to speak with City staff and the consultant team.

The City has also released a community survey to receive feedback, which can be found on the City’s website at savannahga.gov/parkingmatters.

The 10 to 15-minute online survey seeks to understand more about user experience when parking in the study area. By following prompts, survey takers will be asked specific questions about the areas they utilize the most. Responses will be calculated and utilized in decision making. The survey will remain open through Friday, Sept. 26.

The 2025 Parking Matters Study recommendations seek to improve overall mobility, balance parking demand with other mobility modes including walking, biking, and transit, and implement reasonable, standardized practices for parking management.

The 2025 study utilizes a similar methodology and policy-based approach as the 2015 Parking Matters Study but adjusted the focus area to between Liberty and Victory Drive. The 2015 Parking Study Matters was conducted by the City in conjunction with the Metropolitan Planning Commission (MPC) using Department of Transportation (DOT) funding.

The 2025 study was conducted solely by the City of Savannah through a contract with Stantec Consulting Services. The contract for the study was approved by City Council during the April 11, 2024 regular meeting in the amount of $128,285.

What: Parking Matters Open House

When: Wednesday, Sept. 17, 5 p.m. – 7 p.m.

Where: Savannah Civic Center, Bryan Room (2nd floor), 301 W. Montgomery Rd.
