City of Savannah: Official News, Events & Community Updates

Key takeaways
  • Nikki Kimbleton appointed Senior Director of the Office of Marketing and Communications to lead Savannah’s communications strategy.
  • Brings over 25 years experience in journalism, government communications, and public relations to strengthen transparency and trust.
  • Previously led communications for Adams County, CO and City of Jacksonville, FL, managing large teams and major public initiatives.

SAVANNAH – Following a national recruitment search, the City of Savannah has hired Nikki Kimbleton as Senior Director of the Office of Marketing and Communications.

With more than 25 years of experience in public relations, media, and government communications, Kimbleton will lead the City’s communications strategy to ensure residents, businesses, and visitors receive clear, timely, and engaging information while strengthening transparency and trust across the community.

Savannah City Manager Jay Melder said Kimbleton’s extensive background and leadership will enhance the City’s ability to communicate effectively and connect with residents.

“Nikki brings a wealth of experience in both journalism and government communications,” Melder said. “Her proven ability to lead with empathy, clarity, and creativity will strengthen how we engage with our residents and tell the story of a city moving forward together.”

Kimbleton’s career reflects a deep commitment to public service and storytelling. She previously served as the Director of Communications for Adams County, Colorado, where she oversaw a large-scale communications portfolio, led a team of 15 professionals, and spearheaded creative and innovative campaigns to strengthen community engagement and the county’s connection with its growing population.

Prior to her time in Colorado, Kimbleton served as Director of Communications for the City of Jacksonville, Florida, one of the nation’s largest municipalities. There, she managed citywide messaging, media relations, and major public initiatives. Earlier in her career, Kimbleton spent many years as a television news anchor and reporter, covering major stories across the country and developing a reputation for credibility, clarity, and compassion in her storytelling.

Now back on the East Coast, Kimbleton says returning closer to home, family, and lifelong friends made Savannah the perfect place to continue her career in public service.

“Public service has always been my passion, and Savannah has always held a special place in my heart,” Kimbleton said. “This city’s beauty, spirit, and sense of community are unmatched. I’m honored to serve alongside a team that works every day to make life better for our residents and to help share Savannah’s story with the warmth and pride it deserves.”

A lifelong sports fan and loyal Jacksonville Jaguars supporter, Kimbleton is also excited to cheer on all of Savannah’s local teams with her husband and son, Braddock.
