    Art preservation

March 25 — In Atlanta’s art community, making work and sustaining it for others can be the same act. This week’s Sketchbook makes that point twice.

Photographer J. Bakari Page didn’t set out to make a book. He set out to understand what was happening in the room where his daughter trained every Saturday. What he found at AREA Atlanta – the corrections, the pressure, the accumulation of work – became the photo book “Any Given Saturday: The Art of Becoming, Vol. 01.”

At the 2026 High Museum Atlanta Wine Auction, running March 26–28 at Pullman Yards, 10 Atlanta artists are offering their own work in service of something larger. Their pieces are part of the Palette & Pour silent auction. Proceeds help put more than 35,000 schoolchildren in front of art every year. We have a preview.

Keeping culture alive is a group project. How are you contributing?

    The before stage

📸 “The most important part of a dancer’s development happens in the moments no one sees,” says Atlanta photographer J. Bakari Page, who spent his Saturdays at AREA Atlanta documenting just that. “Any Given Saturday: The Art of Becoming, Vol. 01” is the result.
