Global Black Voices: News from around the World

    Key takeaways
    • Zendaya and stylist Law Roach surprised Alexandra Warren at Mark Ingram Atelier, helping her choose and style the wedding dress.
    • Zendaya unexpectedly paid for the gown, relieving the couple's financial worry and leaving them stunned and grateful.
    • The couple, Alexandra Warren and KB White, said the generous gesture reduced wedding stress as they plan a courthouse ceremony and larger celebration.

New York couple Alexandra Warren, 30, and KB White, 34, had an unforgettable wedding dress shopping experience that still feels “unreal.” Some months ago, an open casting call was sent out for one lucky couple to receive a special wedding dress opportunity in celebration of the A24 film The Drama.

Warren and White were chosen, and what began as a simple casting call turned into a once-in-a-lifetime surprise when actress Zendaya and stylist Law Roach unexpectedly appeared.

As the couple responded to the call, Warren was offered a chance to try on dresses ahead of her wedding next year with White. Their February 9 appointment at Mark Ingram Atelier in New York City became an extraordinary event.

“We were completely surprised,” White told People, adding, “We are still in disbelief at their generosity.”

The appointment started calmly with just the couple and their consultant, Mckenzie Salvatierra-Custin. The mood changed quickly when White saw Zendaya and her stylist, Roach, walk in. White was shocked to see the celebrities and watched to see how Warren would react to the surprise.

“I knew Alex would freak out since she loves their work and really adores their styles,” White recounted. “I couldn’t wait to see her reaction.”

Warren was thrilled when Roach, a famous stylist, unexpectedly arrived to help her choose a dress. She called the moment surreal, saying, “I felt like I was floating!”

“I wish I had three hours to discuss style with him,” she said.

Roach spent about an hour working closely with Warren. He helped her refine her choices and finally pick the perfect dress. Making the experience even more extraordinary, Zendaya joined the appointment for roughly 30 minutes. She chatted with the couple about their wedding and her upcoming film.

“It just felt unreal,” Warren recalled, adding, “It felt so good that they were both so excited to help me with this milestone decision.”

Warren finally found the dress in the atelier, but its high price initially made the couple hesitate. They soon learned the cost would no longer be a problem.

“After both Law and Zendaya confirmed that they loved the dress I was wearing, Zendaya said, ‘By the way, it’s covered,’” Warren explained. “KB and I were genuinely confused and asked what she meant, and she said she was paying for it. We literally gasped!”

She added, “When Zendaya said she was paying for it, I felt so grateful. We work as public interest lawyers, so we are very conscious of our wedding planning finances. Zendaya saw how important it is for Alex to have this gorgeous dress. I cannot wait to see Alex in this dress on our wedding day.”

For Warren, the entire experience was nothing short of magical.

“I’ve always loved fashion and gowns and always thought I’d want to look beautiful for special moments in my life. To have such an important garment not only be signed off on by a stylist I’ve admired forever but paid for by an artist I admire felt like a dream come true,” the bride-to-be said. “I still can’t believe it! I want to wear it every day for the rest of my life.”

Beyond the generous gesture, Zendaya, who has been about bridal-themed fashion for the Drama press tour, also shared thoughtful advice about marriage, drawing inspiration from her film.

“Zendaya told us that her film focuses on a couple who have a lot of drama in their wedding planning. She told us to be calm and work together to plan the best event, and her generous gift would only help with cutting down on stress,” Warren said.

Warren and White’s heartfelt love story began at the nonprofit where they both work as lawyers. Their relationship evolved from colleagues to close friends and finally to partners. Two years ago, Warren took the step of asking White out, and their first date at a Bed-Stuy bar solidified their strong connection, confirming their lasting bond.

“We are co-workers to friends to lovers,” White noted.

In a deeply personal, simple, and intimate ceremony, the couple got engaged after taking a significant step in the fall of 2025 by designing each other’s engagement rings.

“We weren’t sure how to propose because we do so many little romantic gestures, it was hard to think of something even bigger. We recently moved into our first apartment together, so one morning we decided we couldn’t wait any longer. We made tea in our favorite mugs and gave each other our rings on our couch,” White shared.

Warren added, “It was so casual, romantic, and so, so us.”

Warren and White plan a fall courthouse wedding in NYC, followed by a larger celebration. They are excited by the support, including an unforgettable moment of kindness from two fashion and entertainment icons.
