Traffic Alert: City Water Main Break Caused by Private Fiber Company Installation Repaired, Intersections Reopened
SAVANNAH (Oct. 8, 2026) – The intersection of Pennsylvania Ave. and E. Gwinnett St. is fully repaired, four days ahead of schedule.
Previously damaged water mains by a private company and impacted roadways at intersections of Pennsylvania Ave. at E. Gwinnett Street as well as Hopkins St. at W. 48th St. are repaired and accessible. The damage occurred Oct. 5, at approximately 4 p.m., after a private fiber company struck a City water main during a fiber installation project, causing the break.
City of Savannah crews promptly addressed the issue, closed off the area, issued a preliminary boil water advisory Oct. 6, for nearly 100 homes impacted, lifted advisory Oct. 7, upon completion of proper safety testing, and completed road repairs Oct. 8, four days ahead of schedule.
The City of Savannah appreciates patience and understanding during all construction projects aimed at improving safety and sustainability of the city.
