City of Savannah Welcomes Monique Williams as Press Secretary

SAVANNAH — The City of Savannah is pleased to announce the hiring of Monique Williams as Press Secretary for the Office of Marketing and Communications, effective March 9, 2026.

Williams brings more than 25 years of experience across print, radio, television, corporate communications, public relations, strategic communications, public affairs, executive leadership, and community engagement in both the public and private sectors.

An Emmy-nominated veteran journalist, columnist, writer, and speechwriter, Williams is widely respected for her impactful storytelling and commitment to public service. As a former news anchor and reporter, she built a reputation for holding the powerful accountable while giving voice to those who often go unheard. Her reporting has influenced political landscapes, contributed to changes in law, and earned national features on TVOne, Investigation Discovery (ID), and The Dr. Phil Show.

Before relocating to Savannah, Williams worked with NBC, ABC, and CBS affiliates across North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia, serving in roles that included reporter, anchor, producer, photographer, editor, writer, copy editor, and digital content creator.

Williams is a graduate of Georgia Southern University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in communication arts. Throughout her career she has been recognized as Best Media Personality and Woman of the Year and received a Southeast Regional Emmy nomination on her first submission. Beyond the newsroom, she has served as an on-air radio and television personality, public speaker, podcast host, emcee, and mentor to reporters, producers, and media professionals.

As Press Secretary, Williams will play a key role in strengthening the City’s media relations efforts, supporting timely and accurate public information, and helping highlight the work of the employees and services that keep Savannah moving forward.

City Manager Jay Melder said the position is critical to ensuring the public remains informed about the work being done across the City.

“The Press Secretary plays an essential role in helping residents understand the important work happening across our city every day,” said Melder. “Savannah is making meaningful progress on many fronts — from public safety and infrastructure to housing and community investment — and it’s important that those stories are shared clearly and accurately. Monique’s experience as a journalist and communicator will help strengthen our ability to connect with the public and highlight the work of Team Savannah.”

Williams joins the City’s Office of Marketing and Communications as the City continues to expand its efforts to keep residents informed, engaged, and connected to the services and initiatives shaping Savannah’s future.
