End of week to bring Juneteenth celebrations

Among the holiday’s Friday events will be the “Juneteenth on the Yard” at the International African American Museum, which will be open all day for free.  At noon, five hours of events start at the downtown museum.

Other events include:  

• Thursday, 6:30 p.m.:  Jazz Under the Stars, North Charleston
• Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.: Living Legacies: A Juneteenth Commemoration, Magnolia Plantation and Gardens, West Ashley
• Friday, 6 p.m.: 6th annual Gullah Juneteenth, downtown
• Friday, 6 p.m.: Juneteenth Liberation Festival, North Charleston
• Friday, 6 p.m.: Rhythm and Roots, Summerville
• Saturday, 8 p.m.: Juneteenth Family Fest, Riverfront Park, North Charleston.

AROUND TOWN: New Johns Island park uses nature to reduce flooding. Charleston municipal leaders say the new The Dale T. Morris Ecological Park, named in honor of the city’s late resilience director, will reduce flooding and improve water quality throughout the area.

S.C. 250:  S.C. flag makers say they ‘can’t make enough’ to meet 250th anniversary demand. As the nation celebrates its 250th birthday, flag makers say they’re inundated with orders: “We seemingly cannot make enough of them because we sell out 30 minutes after we do a release,” one North Charleston flag maker said.
