Tropical Depression Nine News Release #3

City of Savannah remains in monitoring and preparedness phase

SAVANNAH – The City of Savannah will continue to monitor and prepare for any potential impact from Tropical Depression Nine following the latest forecast from the National Hurricane Center (NHC) which indicated the storm will shift east as it tracks north and is unlikely to make landfall.

Current forecasted impacts for Savannah include 1-2 inches of rainfall and a 5-10% chance of Tropical Storm force winds. Some minor to moderate coastal flooding at high tide is also expected. The storm is currently 655 miles from Savannah and is moving northwest at 7 mph. Savannah is not currently under any watches or warnings.

The City will follow Chatham Emergency Management Agency (CEMA) and remain activated on Sunday, Sept. 28. Emergency personnel are monitoring the storm and handling operations from the City’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC).

The City will continue to conduct sandbag operations on Sunday, Sept. 28 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at EnMarket Arena Parking Lot (630 Stiles Ave.) and Savannah Fire Station #7 (6902 Sallie Mood Dr.). Sandbags are limited to five bags per household. Residents are asked to bring their own shovel to fill the bags.

Savannah residents and businesses are encouraged to monitor the storm, follow official City channels for updates, and sign up for CEMA alerts. Additionally, residents should take necessary precautions to protect property, and review emergency plans and kits.

The latest updates from the City, and more information about preparedness, can be found at savannahga.gov/hurricane.
