City of Savannah Enters Operating Condition 4, Monitoring Phase

SAVANNAH – Based on the potential for impact from a developing storm in the Caribbean, Invest 94L, the City of Savannah entered Operating Condition (OPCON) 4, the Monitoring Phase on Friday. The City has followed the posture of Chatham Emergency Management Agency (CEMA), the lead agency in the region for emergency storm response.

The current forecast indicates potential impact on Savannah, but the path and full potential of that impact remain uncertain. The National Hurricane Center (NHC) has given the system a 90% chance of development in the next 48 hours. As part of the OPCON 4 status, emergency response staff with the City of Savannah have been placed on standby over the coming weekend.

The City will provide residents and businesses with sand and sandbags ahead of potential impacts. Sandbags will be limited to five bags per household. Residents are asked to bring their own shovel to fill the bags. Sandbags will be available Saturday, Sept. 27 and Sunday, Sept. 28 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., while supplies last, at EnMarket Arena Parking Lot (630 Stiles Ave.) and Savannah Fire Station #7 (6902 Sallie Mood Dr.).

Savannah residents and businesses are encouraged to monitor the storm and official City channels for updates over the weekend, take necessary precautions to protect property, and review emergency plans and kits. The latest updates from the City, and more information about preparedness, can be found at savannahga.gov/hurricane. Residents are also encouraged to sign up for the City of Savannah’s RAVE Alert system and the CEMA alert system.

For updates specific to the City of Savannah, residents are encouraged to follow @cityofsavannah on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and Twitter.
