SAVANNAH – Beginning at sunset on Monday Sept. 1, City Hall will be illuminated in red, white, and blue colors in observance of the Labor Day Holiday.

Residents and visitors are invited to take selfies with City Hall, post on social media using the hashtag #912LaborDay and tag the City’s official social media channels.

City administrative offices and facilities will be closed on Sept. 1 on observance of the holiday. Emergency services will remain open.

The Savannah Police Department will be working to ensure citizens and visitors have a safe Labor Day weekend. SPD reminds drivers to keep an eye on the roads and expect additional traffic.

Motorists should ensure that their vehicle is mechanically sound, avoid speeding, and leave early to give enough time to arrive safely at their destination. Always wear a seatbelt and ensure any children in the vehicle are properly secured. Be vigilant and don’t drive distracted.

Never drink and drive. Those whose Labor Day plans involve drinking should plan responsibly and find a ride or have a designated driver. SPD officers will be out and about looking for drunk drivers.

Savannah Fire Department reminds residents when cooking outdoors during the holiday weekend to take precautions to ensure fire safety.

Keep your grill, smoker, or fryer, at least 10 feet away from combustible materials, including house, deck, fence, or furniture. Always stay with your outdoor appliances when in use. Keep a fire extinguisher nearby and ready for use. Keep children and pets a safe distance of at least five feet from outdoor cooking appliances.

Sanitation operations will be impacted by the closure. For more information, visit savannahga.gov/sanitation.
