Chile! The 2025 BET Awards came with surprises, standout looks, and a little post-show buzz. And, Claressa Shields was at the center of it all. After Angel Reese snagged the “Sportswoman of the Year” award, Claressa took to X to voice her disappointment, sparking a wave of reactions online.

Claressa Shields Clears Up Comments On Losing Award

At the 2025 BET Awards, Angel Reese was honored with the “Sportswoman of the Year” award, surpassing other notable nominees such as A’ja Wilson, Coco Gauff, and Claressa Shields. Reese’s recent achievements, including setting a WNBA record for consecutive double-doubles and her significant impact on women’s sports culture, contributed to her recognition.

Following the announcement, Claressa Shields took to X with comments that some fans felt hinted at disappointment over the outcome. Her posts quickly sparked speculation, but Claressa cleared the air, affirming her support for Angel Reese and highlighting the bigger picture.

    The Internet Lights Up

The internet wasted no time chiming in, with reactions ranging from praise to side-eyes. Some fans applauded Claressa for her career achievements while others threw shade at her commenting about the women’s basketball player.

These X users didn’t appear to agree with her comments:

I like yoh girl but sometimes you come like a hater, jus say congrats and keep it moving

    This ain’t it , Claressa

Girl don’t get on here complaining. You’re talented, don’t let that get overshadowed because you appear to come not as a sore loser.

Just delete the tweet say congratulations and keep it moving.

While, others appeared to have the boxing champion’s back:

You won in God’s Eyes! That’s all that matters! Keep shining ✨️

I agree with you. You had a good year and you dropped your documentary. You deserved it but you’re blessed you don’t need them awards you’re a champ.

Papoose & Claressa Make Award Show Debut

Yep, that’s right—Papoose and Claressa Shields officially made their award show debut last night at BET’s ceremony and had the whole venue shook! The pair wore sleek ensembles and sat next to each other all night as Claressa received her first BET Awards nomination for “Sportswoman of the Year.” They have seemingly confirmed their romance through interviews and social media, but this was the first time they stepped out on a grand level. What really has folks talking though? This all comes in the middle of seemingly messy drama between Pap and his estranged wife, Remy Ma.

Additionally, Papoose shared on Instagram that he had a “great time” with his “beautiful lady” at the award show. And, Claressa captioned her post with, “Fortunate For All My Blessings,” and added, “For My First BET Nomination, I came how a Champion Should.”
