    Common Lemon Recipe Questions

Can I use bottled lemon juice instead of fresh lemon juice in these recipes? Fresh lemon is best, unless the recipe says it’s ok to use bottled. Fresh lemon juice lends a bright, tart, fresh, balanced flavor. Bottled lemon juice tends to be sharper and can overpower some recipes if the amount isn’t adjusted.

How can I add more lemon flavor to recipes? Lemon is a very delicate flavor espeically in baked goods, since it can be very subtle. To amp up the lemon flavor even more, try adding lemon zest or lemon oil/extracts.

If I need to use up a lot of lemons, what recipe do you suggest? Lemonade! It uses lots of lemons, and you create homemade frozen lemon concentrates so that you can make fresh lemonade in seconds.

Why do my fresh lemon recipes taste bitter? When using fresh lemon zest, it’s important to ONLY use the yellow zest and not the white pith underneath, which is very bitter. Use a microplane for easier zesting.
