Savannah, Georgia — Mr. George Herman, 82, entered eternal rest peacefully at his home in Savannah, Georgia, on Saturday, October 25, 2025.
Born and raised in Savannah’s historic Yamacraw Village, George was a proud graduate of Alfred E. Beach High School. After moving to Jamaica, Queens, New York, he built a successful career with the New York City Parks Department, where he faithfully served as a Crew Chief for more than twenty years before retiring.
George accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Mt. Bethel Baptist Church in 1950. He was known for his easy smile, calm spirit, and unwavering love for his family and friends. His life was marked by quiet strength, hard work, and devotion to those he loved.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Earl Herman and Mrs. Rosa Lee Brisbon Herman.
He leaves to cherish his memory: two loving sisters, Ms. Elizabeth Patterson (Allen) of Atlanta and Ms. Renee Herman-Simmons of Atlanta; five devoted children, Minister Robert Brown (Estelle) of Savannah, Dr. Rosalyn Matthews (Shakur) of Atlanta, Stephanie Alston (Wilson Sr.) of Savannah, Minister Earl Herman (Wanda) of Savannah, and Minister Elroy Herman (Stacey) of Atlanta; eight cherished grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
