You’re about to understand why people build entire vacations around these dates.

So we built this HBCU football classics schedule 2026 to keep it all in one place. Every confirmed matchup, every date, updated as new classics get added to the calendar.

Not on the 2026 slate yet (we’re checking): the HBCU New York Football Classic, Las Vegas HBCU Classic, and Essence HBCU Classic don’t have confirmed 2026 dates as of publish. Don’t see your favorite? That doesn’t mean it’s skipping this year — we’ll add it here the moment it’s announced.

    Classics Spotlight: The Big Four

If you only make it to one or two classics a year, make it these. Real talk — these four are the backbone of the HBCU football classics schedule 2026, and everybody understood the assignment when they became must-see:

Orange Blossom Classic (Sept. 6, Miami Gardens) — one of the oldest HBCU classics on the books, dating back to 1933. Nearly a century of being the season-opening showcase for HBCU football’s biggest programs. Let that sink in.

Magic City Classic (Oct. 31, Birmingham) — Alabama A&M vs. Alabama State, regularly one of the highest-attended HBCU football games in the country, with a full week of city-wide programming layered on top. Not just a game. A takeover.

Bayou Classic (Nov. 28, New Orleans) — Grambling State vs. Southern, Thanksgiving weekend, arguably the most iconic HBCU rivalry game in the sport — complete with the Battle of the Bands. Real ones already have this weekend blocked off.

Celebration Bowl (Dec. 12, Atlanta) — the HBCU national championship game, MEAC champion vs. SWAC champion, crowning Black college football’s national title. The whole season builds to this.

That’s four different cities, four different traditions, one shared energy.

    Planning Around a Classic

Classics carry the same lesson as homecoming: the game is the excuse, the week is the event. Before you turn this HBCU football classics schedule 2026 into an actual travel plan, here’s what to actually know:

    • Battle of the bands is often the real draw. At classics like the Bayou Classic, the halftime band battle regularly outshines the football itself.
    • City-wide programming stacks up around marquee classics. Magic City Classic week in Birmingham and Bayou Classic weekend in New Orleans both come with concerts, step shows, and parades layered on top of the game.
    • Tickets and hotels move fast for the Big Four. Orange Blossom, Magic City, Bayou Classic, and the Celebration Bowl are the four to book earliest — often 8+ weeks out.
    • Watch for TV coverage. Several major classics (Celebration Bowl, Bayou Classic, Orange Blossom) now air nationally, so even if you can’t make the trip, you don’t have to miss it.

Different city every time. Same unmistakable energy.

    Why Bookmark This Schedule

Classic dates don’t lock in all at once — TV deals finalize late, a couple of matchups still say “TBD,” and new classics get added mid-summer more often than you’d think. That’s why this HBCU football classics schedule 2026 lives here as a running list instead of a one-and-done post. We’re checking back weekly through the season, not just posting once and disappearing. So if your favorite classic isn’t up yet, don’t panic — bookmark this page, and we’ll have it here the second it’s official.
