Game On: Latest in Gaming News, Reviews & Industry Buzz

The first of many big announcements for the week leading up to Summer Game Fest has gamers feeling a bit shaken (not stirred) this morning.

IO Interactive, makers of the HITMAN series, are ready to pull back the curtain on its James Bond project. It’s called 007 First Light, and will likely be revealed during the SGF showcase this Friday when it goes live at 4pm CT.

“007 First Light is a brand new James Bond video game developed and published by IO Interactive,” the game’s website reads. “Featuring a wholly original Bond origin story, players will step into the shoes of the world’s favorite Secret Agent to earn their 00 status.”

And that’s all we know so far. But the fact that it comes from the studio responsible for games in the HITMAN franchise, along with Kane & Lynch, likely means that it will feature some top-notch third-person gameplay. Those looking for a rehash or reimagining of the all-time great Goldeneye 007 FPS may be disappointed.

This seems like a glorious matchup when it comes to IP and developer, and Bond’s new owners at Amazon MGM Studios seem to agree. So, there’s substantial reason to get a little hyped ahead of the new title’s reveal this week.

I’m definitely interested in this one, and I’ve never seen a James Bond film. Yes. You read that right. I don’t know how it’s happened, but I’ve never found myself sat in front of a TV when 007 is on. Maybe this could be my introduction to the world, considering it’s an origin story. Or should I start with the Daniel Craig films? Let me know.

Regardless, we’ll know more about 007 First Light before the weekend rolls around. Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest streams live on YouTube starting at 4pm CT on June 6.
