Global Black Voices: News from around the World

Toronto, ON — Veteran Canadian actor Kim Roberts has wrapped filming on the upcoming feature The Snake, shot in Prince Edward Island and slated for release in 2026.

The messy drama, written with sharp humour and edge, follows a 40-something wild child (played by Susan Kent) who leaves her punk rock boyfriend and copes by seducing her best friend’s husband. Roberts plays a supporting role in the ensemble cast, bringing her trademark depth and presence to the screen.

An Accomplished Career

With more than 200 credits across film, television, theatre, and voice acting, Roberts is one of Canada’s most recognizable talents. Audiences have seen her in standout roles such as Christine in The Handmaid’s Tale, Marnie in Schitt’s Creek, Alice in The Changeling, Ms. Patty in Alert: Missing Persons Unit, and as the voice of Mayor Goodway in the Paw Patrol franchise.

Her range has taken her from horror in SAW III and SAW IV to family-friendly productions like The Cheetah Girls and The Doodlebops. Along the way, she has worked with industry greats including Steven Spielberg, Sidney Lumet, Maya Angelou, Atom Egoyan, Zack Snyder, and performers like Robin Williams, Mariah Carey, Jackie Chan, and Drake.

A Trailblazer for Canadian Artists

Beyond her screen work, Roberts has been a pioneer for Black Canadian actors. She was the first Black woman to speak in a nationally televised Canadian commercial and co-founded Obsidian Theatre, Canada’s most prominent Black and diverse theatre company. In 2024, she earned acclaim at Stratford Festival Theatre for her lead role in the world premiere of Get That Hope.

Looking Ahead

With The Snake adding to her long list of credits, Roberts continues to redefine longevity and versatility in the entertainment industry. Her work remains a source of inspiration for emerging actors across Canada and beyond.

The Snake is expected to premiere in 2026.
