LaGRANGE, Ga. — A LaGrange man who demanded a speedy trial has pleaded guilty to charges connected to a December 2024 shooting and a subsequent high-speed chase that endangered his young daughter.
On August 25, in Troup County Superior Court, 40-year-old Dequindre Jerome Langston, also known as “Double K,” admitted guilt to aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He also entered guilty pleas to related Coweta County charges of fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer and cruelty to children in the second degree.
Judge Jep Bendinger sentenced Langston to 20 years in prison without parole, followed by 15 years on probation.
The case stemmed from a December 17, 2024, shooting on Handley Street in LaGrange that left one man injured. Investigators identified Langston through witness accounts and surveillance video. Later that day, deputies with the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office spotted Langston’s vehicle, a Dodge Durango, on Interstate 85. When deputies attempted to stop the vehicle, Langston fled at speeds topping 100 miles per hour with his 5-year-old daughter inside. Deputies used a PIT maneuver to end the chase, and the child escaped the wreckage with only minor injuries.
Inside Langston’s vehicle, officers recovered a handgun with an extended magazine that the Georgia Bureau of Investigation later confirmed had been used in the LaGrange shooting.
Langston has a lengthy criminal record, including convictions for drug distribution, firearm offenses, and family violence. He had been released from prison in March 2024, just nine months before the shooting.
“This defendant is a repeat, violent offender who has demonstrated no desire to be a positive member of society,” District Attorney John Herbert Cranford Jr. said in a statement. “Our community will be safer with him in prison without the possibility of parole for the next 20 years.”
