Mary Rivera, who played Ned’s scene-stealing grandmother in Spider-Man: No Way Home, died at the age of 82. Her family confirmed her death earlier this year with TMZ, which shared that she was proud of her role as Ned’s lola, grandmother in Tagalog, in the film and that her family encouraged her to audition. In the scene, she’s at home with Ned (Jacob Batalon) and MJ (Zendaya) when Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) and Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) drop in to explain the multiverse. She asks Ned in Tagalog to ask the Peters to clean the cobwebs that they made to try to prove that they are Spider-Man. “Bless her, she was so sweet. She had a really great time, she was hilarious,” Batalon said in an interview from 2021 about working with her. “Jon, our director, really let her go off with the Tagalog … he just really wanted to respect my culture.”

She’s survived by her husband, four children, 11 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
