EMPORIA, Kan.- Jakobe Mobley came to Savannah State University as a champion.

On May 22, Mobley was among the best in Division II, qualifying for the 2026 NCAA Division II OutdoorTrack & Field Championships in the high jump.

On the big stage once again, his dream of repeating as a champion fell short.

Mobley failed to clear the 2.00m bar in his three attempts and was eliminated in the first round of the high jump competition, out of 22 of the best in the nation.

Mobley was the lone Track & Field to represent Savannah State at the National Championships

As a senior at Robert Toombs Christian Academy in 2025, Mobley set a new school record with his leap of 1.91m (6’3″) to win the GIAA State Track & Field Championship in Class AA. He beat the old record of 1.88m (6′-2″) that was set in 2023.

In his freshman year at Savannah State, Mobley improved his jumping ability and had a career-best leap of 2.10m on April 4 at the SSU Orange & Blue Relays.

At his first outdoor meet of the season on March 7, at the Savannah State Eyeopener, Mobley had a jump of 2.00m to finish third but he improved to 2.07m on the following week in the Tiger Relays to win the event. At the Morehouse Relays on March 27-28, Mobley captured second place with his leap of 2.01m and followed that with his season-high jump of 2.10m at the Orange & Blue Relays.

Mobley slipped to post a jump of 1.95m at the Alice Coachman Invitational on April 11 to finish third but rebounded for a second place finish at the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships on April 21-23 with a jump of 2.05m. He finished sixth at the East Coast Relays on May 1, with his jump of 1.98m.
