Mentoria German Bradley, daughter of the late Donald Jackson-German and Maggie Lou Williams-German, was born October 8, 1940, in Screven County, Georgia. She received her early education in Sylvania, Georgia, a graduate of Central High School, Class of 1958. Upon moving to Savannah as a young woman, Mentoria secured employment at Willie Brown’s Cafeteria where she met the love of her life, Mr. Walter I. Bradley, Jr. They were joined in holy matrimony in 1967, and to this union, five children were born.
In 1968, Mentoria Bradley joined the United House of Prayer for All People and was baptized by Daddy McCollough. As a devout member of the church, she received the Holy Ghost and Fire which inspired her to join many auxiliaries within the church. She served faithfully on the Grace Girl Scouts and the McCollough Stewardess boards until her health declined. She enjoyed traveling to various state convocations, church events and special services with her children.
Saint Mentoria was employed for the Savannah Chatham County Public School’s Nutrition Department as a cook. She later became assistant manager at Casimir Pulaski Elementary School where she retired after 33 years, retiring in 2003.
However, her greatest happiness was preparing baked treats to sell weekly at the church and for the Annual Holy Convocation at Savannah’s Mother House. A few of her menu items were her homemade bread pudding, pineapple upside down cake, pound cake, chocolate layer cake, sweet potato pie, coconut pie, chicken and tuna salads.
Saint Mentoria leaves to cherish her memories: her loving husband of 59 years, Mr. Walter I. Bradley, Jr.; five children: Latricia Givens (Louis, Sr.) of Savannah, GA, Cheryl Cotton (Sgt. Tommie Cotton, Retired), Savannah, GA, Deacon Lawrence K. Bradley, Sr. (Patricia), Savannah, GA, Edith Bradley Smith (Benjamin), Savannah, GA, and Edwin Bradley, Savannah, GA. She also leaves to mourn her brother: Rev. Jonah E. German (Wynona); sister: Mrs. Gladys B. Willis of Tucker, GA, and two devoted sisters-in-law: Millie German and Wynona German of Savannah, Georgia.
Dear to heart are her five grandchildren: Shimelle Carter, Aleisha West (Keller), Charlotte, NC, Danielle Johnson (Jordan), Charlotte, NC, Lawrence Bradley, Jr., Rockledge, FL, and Louis Givens, Jr. of Savannah, GA, and her six great grandchildren: Ahmad West, Kyler West, Amalie West, Lauren Bradley, KourVoisier Russell, Jr. and Symere Russell, host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family other relatives and many friends.
