The Atlanta Braves were 4-6 in their last 10 games coming into Friday night’s meeting with the NL Central-leading Milwaukee Brewers. On the other hand, Brewers starter for the evening, Jacob Misiorowski, came to Atlanta having won 7 of his last 8 starts.

Things can change in a night. The Braves are back in the win column following a 3-2 win on Juneteenth. Big plays on defense (Eli White) and offense (Maurici Dubon, Yaz) helped Atlanta get past Milwaukee tonight.

“That was a complete game,” said Braves manager Walt Weiss after the game.

The game began with Braves starter Martin Perez and Misiorowski trading scoreless first and second innings. The Brewers managed to score the game’s first run on an infield single by Brice Turang. That run was the bulk of the damage as the Brewers had the bases loaded before Perez got himself out of trouble.

Perez has been equally as impressive as Misiorowski of late. He has won his last three starts, including a 5.1 innings, four-hit, 4K gem in New York against the Mets on June 13. The lefthander’s presence has become even more important to the Braves with Spencer Strider out of the rotation for the moment.

Through five innings, Misiorowski had only struck out four Braves, but failed to give up a run or an extra-base hit. His pitch count was at an impressive 58.

The sixth inning is where Misiorowski saw some traffic on the base paths. Jorge Mateo legged out an infield single, and then got to third on a single by Ozzie Albies. With two on, Matt Olson forced a walk, before Dom Smith got up to bat with the bases loaded and the Braves down 1-0. Misirowski struck out Smith, but gave up a two-run single to Mauricio Dubon that put Atlanta in front 2-1.

Dylan Lee came into the game for Perez (6 innings, 1 earned runs, 4Ks) to start the seventh inning and immediately gave up a single to Brewers shortstop Cooper Pratt. He then got Joey Ortiz, the Brewers third baseman, to strike out before what could be called the play of the game took place.

Eli White may have been 0-2 at the plate through seven innings, but his glove in left field was 1-1. Christian Yelich’s deep fly ball down the third baseline with a runner on second base would have been a game-tying double if White didn’t make an incredible catch.

Mike Yastrzemski had been cold for several games, but Braves manager Walt Weiss continued to stick with him out of trust and necessity. Yaz paid him back with a solo homew run, his fourth of the season, to add another run to the Braves’ tally and out them up 3-1. The whole run didn’t come off of Misirowski, who was taken out of the game after six innings. That home run was off the first pitch from Brewers right-hander Abner Uribe.

Raisel Iglesias, rested after having not seen the mound for days, entered the game in the ninth inning with 14 saves and a 1.16 ERA. The inning didn’t go as smoothly as they have all season, with Iglesias giving up two hits, a walk, and a run, but he secured the save and the win.
