An exhibition featuring the watercolor art of nationally recognized artist Napoleon Wilkerson is set to open at the Historic Beach Institute African-American Cultural Center. The exhibition, which will display his work until September 27, 2025, will coincide with an artist discussion scheduled for Saturday, August 23, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM.

During the artist talk, Wilkerson will share his insights and experiences regarding the current state of the art world. This event provides a unique opportunity for attendees to engage with the artist directly, offering a deeper understanding of his creative process and inspiration. Attendees will also have the chance to tour both the Beach Institute and the King-Tisdell Cottage as part of the admission, which includes lite refreshments.

The Beach Institute, located at 502 East Harris Street, is open to the public from 12:00 Noon to 5:00 PM, Tuesdays through Saturdays. This cultural center serves as a platform for showcasing African-American art and history, and its collaboration with artists like Wilkerson highlights its commitment to promoting local talent and heritage.

Napoleon Wilkerson’s journey as an artist began in his youth when he demonstrated great promise and passion for art. He honed his skills at the Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD), where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Illustration followed by a Master’s Degree in Painting. Over the years, Wilkerson has built a reputation as a noteworthy artist and former teacher in the Savannah Chatham County Public School System.

His work, characterized by vibrant colors and intricate details, resonates with audiences and reflects his personal experiences. The current exhibition will allow visitors to appreciate his watercolor creations, which exemplify his artistic evolution and dedication to his craft. Those interested in attending the event or the exhibition can obtain further information by contacting Mr. Johnathan Winbush at 912-335-8868.

This exhibition and discussion are part of a broader initiative to engage the local community with the arts, encouraging dialogue and fostering appreciation for the rich cultural narratives represented within African-American history. Visitors can explore not only the exhibition but also delve into the cultural significance of the Beach Institute and its offerings.

Overall, the event promises to be a valuable experience for art lovers and the community alike, merging educational dialogue with an opportunity to view unique artistic expressions.
