Vance Sherman Lawton

October 18, 1954 – August 19, 2025

Vance Sherman Lawton, 70, was born on October 18, 1954, in Sylvania, Georgia, to the late Archie Lee Lawton, Sr. and lola Kelly Lawton.

Vance accepted the Lord as his Savior at an early age at Lawton Grove Baptist Church, where he later served faithfully as President of the Trustee Board.  He graduated from Screven County High School, Class of 1972, and went on to briefly attend Savannah Technical School.

Vance was employed at BASF for many years before stepping out on his own to establish Lawton Construction Company. His craftsmanship could be seen in countless structures across the CSRA-residential homes, churches, and commercial buildings alike-leaving behind a legacy built with his own hands.

On August 19, 2025, Vance transitioned from labor to reward. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Vance Sherman Lawton Jr.; his sister, Cynthia Lawton Henderson (Gregory); two brothers, Dennis Lawton and Jerome Lawton; and his mother-in-law, Sarah Ann Johnson.

He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 33 years, Mrs. Alice Lawton of Sylvania, GA; three children, Kelvin Lawton (Sonya) of Sylvania, GA, Jana Butler (Tally) of Brooklet, GA, and Vaneisha Lawton (Malik Eason) of Statesboro, GA; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; one brother, Archie Lawton Jr. (Marilyn) of Warner Robbins Ga; one sister: Sarah McNair of Atlanta Ga; his father-in-law, Joe Louis Johnson of Sylvania, GA; four sisters-in-law, Dilsie Lawton of Sylvania, GA, Beaulah Lawton of Allendale, SC, Eunice Hunter and Janice Johnson both of Sylvania, GA;  two brothers-in-law, Joe Louis Johnson Jr. of Pooler, GA, and Ricky (Catyna)Simon,of Atlanta, GA; one aunt: Mable Bates; and two uncles, Vernon Kelly and Ezel Hunter of New Jersey; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and sorrowing friends.
