SCCPSS high schools swept the Small School Category Awards at Georgia Southern’s 55th Annual High School Model United Nations Conference in January. The long-running academic conference brings together high school students from across the region to engage in simulations of international diplomacy, global problem-solving and multilateral negotiations, including the United Nations General Assembly and Security Council, as well as several international bodies.

The conference was held in the Russell Student Union on the University’s Statesboro campus. It is sponsored by Georgia Southern University’s Department of Political Science and International Studies and the Division of Continuing and Professional Education.  The Model UN is a program for high school students that simulates the United Nations General Assembly and Councils. Students debate world issues from the perspective of the represented countries. It gives high school students an opportunity to participate in the simulation of the United Nations and to learn about the customs and politics of other countries and research issues that are affecting the current governmental system. Students research ethical, economic, global, and governmental issues and prepare to debate these issues with fellow delegates.
