A community group in Savannah’s Sandfly area is urging residents to oppose a proposed three-story storage facility planned for Skidaway Road, saying the project would be a poor fit for the neighborhood’s character and business corridor.
According to a community flyer, the proposed development would be built at 7339-7343 Skidaway Road, directly across from Cutter’s Point and near other restaurants and businesses.
Opponents argue that the area already has multiple storage facilities nearby and contend that adding another one would bring limited economic benefits. The flyer states that storage facilities typically create only a small number of jobs and would make poor use of commercially valuable land that could otherwise support restaurants, offices, retail, or mixed-use development.
The group also argues the project could hurt nearby businesses, conflict with Sandfly’s identity as a gathering place for dining and shopping, and add traffic from trucks, trailers, and moving vans along Skidaway Road.
