    =Savannah State Update:

Savannah State University is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Carol Pride as Associate Vice President of Research & Sponsored Programs. A distinguished member of the SSU faculty and administration for more than two decades, Dr. Pride brings a wealth of academic leadership, research experience, and administrative expertise to the role.
Dr. Pride joined the faculty of Savannah State University when the master’s degree program in Marine Sciences was established in 2002. She has served as the chair of SSU’s Department of Marine and Environmental Sciences for a decade, and most recently served as Interim Associate Vice President of Research and Sponsored Programs.

“Dr. Carol’s expertise and leadership have continuously advanced the mission of Savannah State University,” said SSU President Jermaine Whirl. “Her extensive background in grant administration, research, and teaching will strengthen our institution and help drive improvement across all areas of the university.”

As chair of Department of Marine and Environmental Sciences, Dr. Pride has overseen over $13.8 million in grants as either the principal investigator or co-principal investigator. Pride’s research background is in the imprint of climatic and oceanic variability on the marine fossil record, with focus on micropaleontology and stable isotope biogeochemistry. She routinely mentors SSU undergraduate and graduate students in research on local estuarine ecosystems, while teaching courses in the marine and environmental sciences.

Before joining the SSU faculty, Pride completed a BA in Environmental Science (Wesleyan University), a PhD in Marine Science (University of South Carolina), two postdoctoral research positions (USC and University of California/Santa Barbara), and a visiting professorship at the College of Charleston.
