    HBCU News Spotlight:

    Key takeaways
    • Delta Propel career program accelerates aspiring pilots with structured progression, mentorship, and direct engagement with airline leadership.
    • Texas Southern holds AABI accreditation, enhancing program credibility and eligibility for airline career pathway programs.
    • Significant fleet investments include twelve Cirrus SR20 and a 2026 Diamond DA42, offering advanced avionics and safety systems for training.
    • Industry partnerships provide mentorship, leadership development, streamlined single interview pathways, and direct employment opportunities with major airlines.
    • Texas Southern Aviation aims to reach top 10 collegiate aviation program status by 2030 through enrollment growth and expanded partnerships.

Texas Southern University (TSU) has entered into its fourth airline pilot pathway affiliation. Delta Air Lines has officially named Texas Southern as a Collegiate Partner in its Propel Pilot Career Path Program.

Delta Propel is a career development program designed to accelerate the path for aspiring pilots to become Delta pilots. It is reserved for students at U.S. based universities with flight education programs accredited by the Aviation Accreditation Board International (AABI), a designation Texas Southern has held since 2023.

This milestone further strengthens Texas Southern Aviation’s position as a premier pipeline for developing the next generation of professional pilots and further elevates the university’s growing national profile in aviation education.

“As we continue to expand our national footprint, the addition of Delta Air Lines provides our students with unparalleled access to one of the world’s premier airlines,” said Dr. Terence H. Fontaine, Executive Director of Aviation at Texas Southern University. “Our students now have access to four premier airline pathways, positioning them for success at the highest levels of the aviation industry. Combined with our investment in one of the most advanced and safety-focused training fleets in the nation, we are building a program that not only competes nationally but is firmly on track to become a top 10 collegiate aviation program by 2030.”

Through strategic partnerships with airlines, including Delta, Texas Southern students benefit from mentorship, leadership development, career alignment, and direct access to employment opportunities with leading airlines. Programs such as Propel also provide a streamlined progression model, including a single-interview pathway and ongoing engagement with airline leadership.

In addition to expanding its industry partnerships, Texas Southern Aviation has made significant investments in its training infrastructure and fleet. With the acquisition of 12 new Cirrus SR20 aircraft and the recent purchase of a 2026 Diamond DA42 twin-engine aircraft, students are now training in one of the most advanced and safety-focused fleets among collegiate aviation programs in the United States. These aircraft are equipped with modern avionics and safety systems that enhance training effectiveness while preparing students for the technological demands of today’s airline environment.

Texas Southern University’s Aviation program is strategically focused on becoming a top 10 collegiate aviation program in the nation by 2030, driven by sustained enrollment growth, expanded industry partnerships, enhanced facilities, and a commitment to excellence in pilot training and student outcomes.

The addition of Delta’s Propel Program combined with continued investment in cutting-edge aircraft, simulation technology, and infrastructure underscores TSU Aviation’s rapid growth, national recognition, and unwavering commitment to producing highly skilled, industry-ready pilots.
