Savannah, Georgia-It was a successful week for the Savannah State men’s & women’s basketball squads last week with both teams recording two victories in the first two SIAC home doubleheaders of the season. Now, the squads look to keep the positive momentum going as they will hit the road for two conference games. We’ll cover everything from top to bottom in our latest installment of “This Week In Tiger Athletics”.

Women’s Basketball
Head Coach Phillip Wallace, Jr.’s return home to his hometown and his alma mater has been a successful one so far this season as he has led the Lady Tigers to an impressive 5-1 record, 4-1 in SIAC play which has them sitting in second place in the East Division, just a game behind division leader Allen. Savannah State is on a three-game winning streak and will put that mark on the line twice this week with two contests on the road. First, Savannah State will meet up with East Division rival Albany State on Thursday at 5:30pm, then will travel to Mobile, Alabama to face Spring Hill in a cross-divisional matchup on Saturday at 3:00pm EST/2:00pm CST.

Men’s Basketball
After a rough start to the season for the defending SIAC Champions where the Tigers dropped their first four contests of the season all on the road, it turned out that all that was needed was some good, old fashioned home cooking. Savannah State played like a battle tested team, sweeping both games of their homestand last week against Central State and Kentucky State. Now, head coach Clevan Thompson’s squad will return to the road for two more SIAC matchups. Savannah State‘s first stop will be Albany, Georgia where they will battle in-state and SIAC East Division foe Albany State on Thursday at 7:30pm. Following that matchup, the Orange & Blue will head over to Mobile, Alabama to take on Spring Hill on Saturday at 5:00pm EST/4:00pm CST.
