Traffic Alert: Bee Road Closure Due to Water Main Break

SAVANNAH – City of Savannah crews have implemented a traffic closure on Bee Road between 50th and 52nd Streets as repairs continue following a water main break early Saturday morning.

At approximately 5:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 18, 2026, a 6-inch water main is believed to have begun leaking at a brace point, resulting in the formation of a sinkhole. At approximately 6:00 a.m., a motorist drove through the water-covered area, causing damage to a second, 8-inch water main. See pictures attached.

City Water Resources crews responded immediately, arriving early on a Saturday morning to secure the area, remove the vehicle, and repair both water line breaks. All leaks were repaired in less than three hours, minimizing disruption to water service and allowing crews to quickly transition to roadway restoration and safety measures. See pictures attached.

Bee Road between 50th and 52nd Streets will remain closed through the weekend while crews complete repairs and ensure the roadway is safe for travel.

As a precaution, a boil water advisory has been issued for customers in the affected area. Hand-delivered notices have been provided to all impacted residents with instructions regarding the advisory.

Motorists should avoid the area and use alternate routes. The City will provide additional updates as they become available.
